Tetris Forever Gets Major Update: New Games, Features, and Bug Fixes
2025-02-27 17:23:06Digital Eclipse's Tetris Forever, a compilation of classic Tetris titles including the new Tetris Time Warp, has received a significant update addressing previous criticisms and adding substantial new content. This comes as the game prepares for its physical release on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
Launched in November 2024, Tetris Forever was met with mixed reception, with praise for its classic game selection tempered by complaints about bugs and missing features. This latest update aims to rectify those issues and enhance the overall player experience.
The February update is both a patch and an expansion. It addresses numerous bugs and introduces a variety of new content, including enhancements to Tetris Time Warp’s single-player mode, a new multiplayer feature, a special game mode commemorating Tetris's 40th anniversary, and two classic MS-DOS Tetris games: Super Tetris and Tetris (AcademySoft) v. 3.12.
A key highlight for dedicated Tetris fans is the inclusion of Super Tetris and Tetris v. 3.12. Super Tetris is widely considered one of the best iterations of the game, while Tetris v. 3.12 is historically significant as the last version developed in the Soviet Union at the Academy of Sciences. The update also introduces welcome quality-of-life improvements, such as expanded options for visual and audio customization.
Following the addition of Welltris in December, the inclusion of these two new titles suggests a continuing trend of expanding the Tetris Forever collection. Given that Tetris holds the Guinness World Record for the most official game releases, there's a vast library to draw from. The question remains whether these updates will positively impact sales and player numbers, which have been modest so far, reflected in the 'mixed' reviews on Steam.
