Ex-Xbox Executive: Microsoft Would Prefer Not to Be in the Hardware Business
2025-03-08 11:57:34Microsoft's recent marketing push emphasizing Xbox's versatility is gaining traction, yet questions surrounding the company's commitment to hardware persist. A former Xbox executive has stated that, given the choice, Microsoft wouldn't have entered the console manufacturing business in the first place.
Former Xbox executive Peter Moore recently appeared on a podcast, discussing topics ranging from the console wars to Microsoft's first-party titles appearing on other platforms, and Microsoft's position in the hardware market.
When asked if Microsoft should continue in the hardware space, Moore responded, "If they had a choice, would they be in hardware? No. If they could be a $100 billion company delivering their content directly to your television or any screen of your choice, they'd be delighted."
He continued, "It's the classic Netflix model. No latency, no lag – you're just in. There's no box between you, your controller, and the screen. But, consoles – as we're seeing with Nintendo… people love their hardware."
