The legendary guitar manufacturer Gibson has teamed up with accessory maker CRKD to bring back the iconic guitar controller experience.  Designed after the classic Gibson Les Paul, these controllers aim to cater to both nostalgic fans of rhythm games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and players exploring newer music-based experiences.

Guitar controllers were essential for the rhythm game craze of the 2000s.  While many still cherish these games, the original controllers have often succumbed to wear and tear. Recognizing this resurgence in interest, Gibson and CRKD are bringing two new controllers to the market.

The CRKD Gibson Les Paul Guitar controllers come in two distinct models: the LP Black Tribal Encore Edition and the LP Blueberry Burst Pro Edition.  Both boast impressive features including Hall Effect analog navigation sticks, wired and wireless connectivity, customizable RGB lighting, a tilt sensor, a conveniently located ergonomic D-Pad, and a removable neck for potential upgrades. However, they also have key differences.

The more budget-friendly LP Black Tribal Encore Edition utilizes traditional rubber membrane fret buttons and a mechanical strum bar, evoking the feel of classic controllers. This version is priced at $109.99 for multi-platform compatibility and $119.99 for Xbox/PC.  The LP Blueberry Burst Pro Edition, priced at $119.99 and $129.99 for the respective versions, offers an enhanced experience with mechanical fret buttons and a Hall Effect strum bar featuring haptic feedback.  Both models are available for pre-order now, with shipping expected in June 2025. Pre-orders also include a stylish purple-orange ombre guitar strap and a collectible pin.

While the peak popularity of games like Guitar Hero might seem to be in the past, they maintain a dedicated fanbase.  Alongside the original titles, players are exploring games like Clone Hero, which these new Gibson controllers fully support.  Dedicated players continue to set records and stream their performances on platforms like Twitch, inspiring others to either revisit these classics or pick up a guitar controller for the first time.
