Despite achieving a remarkable milestone of over a million concurrent players on Steam shortly after its February 28th launch, the game's initial success has been overshadowed by player complaints. While Monster Hunter Wilds received critical acclaim and a "Mighty" rating on OpenCritic, with an average score of 89 and a 95% recommendation rate, the PC version has faced criticism for both its technical performance and the inclusion of microtransactions.

Many players have voiced their frustration over several controversial microtransactions included in the game's day-one release.  This controversy, combined with the technical problems, has contributed to the game's "Mixed" review rating on Steam.
