Next-gen console players can now jump into Fortnite action faster than ever before. A recent discovery by dataminer HYPEX, later confirmed by Epic Games, reveals that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users now have the ability to pre-download game updates. This eliminates the frustrating wait time previously required for updates to download after server downtime.

This welcome change arrives alongside the launch of Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2, which is packed with exciting new content.  Collaborations are a major highlight, including a highly anticipated crossover with the classic anime series, Cowboy Bebop.  Fans can also look forward to a humorous “rap beef” storyline featuring Big Dill and Grammy-award winner T-Pain, as well as the arrival of Mortal Kombat's iconic Sub-Zero, available through the battle pass.

The pre-download function allows players to download updates hours before servers go offline for maintenance. Once servers are back online, these players can immediately access the new content, avoiding lengthy download times. This is especially beneficial for those with slower internet connections, who previously faced extended periods of downtime.

To pre-download updates on PS5, simply navigate to the game hub and select 'Pre-download Game Updates.' For Xbox Series X/S users, the process is similar.  Find Fortnite in the 'My games & apps' section, then select 'Manage game & add-ons' followed by 'Updates'.

While this feature is currently exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, many Fortnite players on other platforms, such as Nintendo Switch and PC, are hopeful it will be implemented soon.  These players, particularly those relying on wireless connections or experiencing slower download speeds on older hardware, would greatly benefit from the ability to pre-download.
