Assassin's Creed Shadows Shatters Player Count Record on Steam

Assassin's Creed Shadows has achieved a significant milestone, breaking a long-standing series record on Steam.  Surpassing a record held for over six years, this accomplishment bodes well for the game's future and suggests a strong reception from players.

The game's journey to release was marked by challenges, including delays and a pre-launch leak. However, Assassin's Creed Shadows launched to positive reviews, vindicating Ubisoft's decision to prioritize polish.  The "Very Positive" rating on Steam further reinforces the game's positive reception within the broader gaming community.

A modder has already created one of the first modifications for Assassin's Creed Shadows, aiming to give the game a visual style reminiscent of Ghost of Tsushima.

According to SteamDB, Assassin's Creed Shadows now holds the record for the highest concurrent player count in the Assassin's Creed series on Steam.  This figure currently stands at over 63,055 players and continues to climb.  This surpasses the previous record held by Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which reached a peak of 62,069 players over six years ago. This achievement follows recent news that Assassin's Creed Shadows has already surpassed 2 million players overall, indicating a strong launch.

While this record is undoubtedly a positive sign for Assassin's Creed Shadows, it's important to acknowledge a caveat.  Assassin's Creed Valhalla achieved record-breaking sales in 2020, but its Steam release was delayed until 2022.  This makes it difficult to determine whether Valhalla might have also claimed this player count record had it launched on Steam concurrently with other platforms.  Nevertheless, this achievement for Assassin's Creed Shadows is impressive, suggesting that pre-release concerns may have been overblown.

With the successful launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows, attention now turns to Ubisoft's post-launch support.  The first DLC, titled Claws of Awaji, promises over 10 hours of new content.  The duration of ongoing support remains to be seen, but continued strong sales and player engagement bode well for the game's future.
