Ahead of The Last of Us season two premiering on Max on April 13th,  co-creator Neil Druckmann sat down with Variety for an interview. When asked about the possibility of a The Last of Us Part 3 game, his response was less than optimistic.

He strongly suggested fans shouldn’t hold their breath for more installments in the franchise.  The director hinted that The Last of Us Part 2 could potentially serve as the series finale, with Naughty Dog exploring new intellectual properties in the future.

Druckmann stated,  "I keep getting asked this question, and all I can say is I'm not working on anything right now.  Don't expect any further installments in the Last of Us universe." This departs significantly from previous statements hinting at a potential third entry.

The Last of Us Part 2 was released for PS4 in 2020, with a remastered version launching on PS5 in early 2024 and arriving on Windows PC on April 3rd.

Interestingly, just a year prior, Druckmann had mentioned developing a concept for a third game potentially revolving around Joel's brother, Tommy.  He had even suggested this narrative could unfold as either a game or a television series. This adds further intrigue to his recent, seemingly definitive statements.
