Destiny 2: Bug Fixes in Heresy Unintentionally Break Older Content

The latest update for Destiny 2, Episode Heresy, has brought both positive and negative changes to the game. While players are enjoying the return of the Dreadnaught and the new Nether activity, the update seems to have unintentionally broken parts of older content, specifically activities from Episode Revenant.

As a live service game, Destiny 2 receives frequent updates, including hotfixes, seasonal releases, and yearly expansions. This constant stream of changes, while beneficial in adding new content and addressing issues, can also inadvertently introduce new bugs.

Episode Heresy, launched on February 4th, has been generally well-received. However, players returning to older content are encountering unexpected problems.  Activities like Onslaught: Salvation, introduced in Episode Revenant, are now plagued with bugs that render them unplayable or difficult to complete as intended.

Players have taken to online forums, such as Reddit, to document these issues.  One player, Umbra4042, reported problems with Onslaught: Salvation, including a lack of health regeneration, a default setting of 50 waves, and non-functional Major Fieldworks prompts, effectively soft-locking the activity.  Other players have corroborated these findings and reported further issues affecting Kell's Fall, the Machine Gun Overload mod, and the Sundered Doctrine dungeon.

Bungie has acknowledged some of these problems, including the Kell's Fall soft lock and the inaccessible Major Fieldwork missions, on their Known Issues page. However, a timeline for fixes remains uncertain, leaving players unable to fully experience this older content.

The emergence of these bugs has sparked frustration among players, with some attributing the issues to Bungie's 2024 layoffs, which impacted their quality assurance team. The concern is that a reduced QA staff has contributed to the rise in bugs affecting both Episode Revenant and now Heresy.
