The charming action platformer, Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, is set to receive a significant content boost with the upcoming Tanuki Kabuki DLC, slated for release later in 2025. Developer Squid Shock Studios is expanding the world of Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, which initially launched in July 2024 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, to offer players even more adventures inspired by Japanese folklore.

Originally published by Humble Games, Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus quickly garnered positive reviews and secured its spot as a notable indie release of 2024. Players control Bo, a nimble protagonist wielding a shape-shifting staff and magical Daruma dolls, as they traverse a vibrant world brimming with mythical creatures.

The Tanuki Kabuki expansion's highlight is undoubtedly the new Boss Rush mode.  Squid Shock Studios describes it as an "interactive Kabuki theater experience," where players face off against the game's bosses on a stage before a reactive audience.  Earning the audience's favor grants better rewards, adding a unique performance element to the challenging battles.  For those seeking even greater difficulty, optional seals and self-imposed handicaps offer further rewards.  Players can choose between Solo Mode, facing bosses individually, or Gauntlet Mode, taking on a series of bosses back-to-back.

The Tanuki Kabuki DLC offers more than just boss battles.  A new Tanuki Tracker quest sends players on a scavenger hunt throughout the Strange Garden, rewarding them with Kabuki-themed bonuses like the Combat Rehearsal Room, the Tanuki Kabuki Band, and a display room for collectibles.  A new gachapon machine offers 77 unique Sagara dolls to collect.  Finally, a Chiptune Remix EP will accompany the DLC, featuring 8-bit renditions of popular tracks from the game's soundtrack.
