Splitgate 2 Alpha Launches with Massive Glacier Map and New Gameplay Mechanics

The highly anticipated sequel to the hit portal shooter, Splitgate, is gearing up for its 2025 release with an open alpha showcasing exciting new features.  While the official launch date remains unconfirmed, players can finally get their hands on Splitgate 2 from February 27th to March 2nd across all platforms.

One of the most significant additions is a sprawling glacier map, a staggering 20 times larger than any map in the original Splitgate.  This expansive environment introduces unique gameplay elements, such as chaining speed by sliding down icy slopes and leveraging portal momentum for tactical advantage.  Supporting 8v8v8 matches with up to three teams, the glacier map also offers cross-play functionality, allowing players from different platforms to seamlessly join the action.

The open alpha offers a first look at three new locations: Glacier, Bypass, and Eden.  Central to the Glacier map is the innovative slide mechanic, which interacts dynamically with Splitgate's signature portal system.  This allows for faster, more fluid movement, adding another layer of depth to combat scenarios and enhancing the fast-paced action.

Beyond the slide mechanic, Splitgate 2 introduces a faction system comprised of three distinct groups: Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask.  Similar to character classes, each faction boasts unique abilities and equipment, encouraging diverse playstyles and strategic team composition.  Players must carefully consider their faction choice as switching isn't possible until the round ends. Early testing suggests that balanced teams with representation from each faction are most effective.
