Unraveling the Mystery: Theories Surrounding Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Protagonists

The recent Pokemon Presents livestream finally unveiled gameplay footage of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, igniting discussions and theories among eager fans.  The focus of much speculation revolves around the game's protagonists, who deviate from the expected resemblance to the original Generation 6 characters from Pokemon X and Y.

Many anticipated a parallel to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, where the protagonists shared similarities with the Generation 4 characters. However, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release later this year, introduces a fresh pair of protagonists with intriguing resemblances to other figures within the Pokemon universe.

One prevalent theory suggests a connection between the new protagonists and Professor Sycamore from Pokemon X and Y.  The male protagonist's dark, curly hair bears a striking resemblance to the Kalos region's Professor.  However, the official Pokemon website mentions the protagonists arrive in Lumiose City for sightseeing, hinting at origins in a different region.

Fans Have Multiple Theories About the Identities of Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Protagonists

Another, more far-fetched theory, proposes a link to Ethan and Lyra, the protagonists of the Generation 2 games.  Similarities in eye color, hairstyles, and even clothing have fueled this speculation, along with the inclusion of two Generation 2 starter Pokemon. The connection to Johto is certainly there.

The primary challenge to this theory lies in the established timeline.  Ethan and Lyra would be in their thirties by now, considering the aging of characters like Red, the Generation 1 protagonist, across various games. While unexpected twists are always possible, the protagonists are likely entirely new characters awaiting their stories to unfold upon the game's release.
