The world of Pokemon continues to expand beyond video games with the recent release of Monopoly: Pokemon Edition. This new board game offers a unique twist on the classic Monopoly formula, incorporating beloved elements from the popular franchise.

Launched in December 2024, this edition caters to two to four players and blends familiar Monopoly mechanics with a distinct Pokemon theme.  Players will traverse a game board featuring iconic locations like Pokemon Gyms and stadiums, utilizing mover pieces inspired by Gen 9 starters Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, alongside the ever-popular Pikachu.

This Pokemon-themed edition replaces traditional Monopoly money with Poke Balls, and winning revolves around collecting eight different types of Pokemon to complete a tracker mat. Players can search locations for Pokemon, battle other trainers, and engage in strategic trading.  Alternatively, victory can be achieved by being the last player with any Poke Balls remaining.  The game is currently available for $24.99 from various retailers, including Amazon.

This isn't the first time Pokemon has ventured into the world of Monopoly.  Previous Kanto and Johto editions were released in 2014 and 2016, respectively. These older versions have become increasingly rare and often command a premium price.  Monopoly: Pokemon Edition's accessible price point of $24.99 makes it an affordable option for fans.
