The wait for more information on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is almost over.  Kojima Productions has confirmed a panel at SXSW 2025 in Austin, Texas, on March 9th, where Hideo Kojima himself will take the stage to discuss the highly anticipated sequel.

The original Death Stranding, while divisive, achieved enough success to warrant a follow-up, officially announced at The Game Awards 2022.  A deeper dive into the gameplay and story was provided during a PlayStation State of Play livestream in January 2024.  Now, fans are eager to see what Kojima has in store for the next installment.

True to form, Hideo Kojima has kept much of Death Stranding 2's plot shrouded in secrecy.  Every new teaser and trailer raises more questions than answers.  What we do know is that Sam Porter Bridges is back, this time working with a new organization called Drawbridge, to help Fragile reconnect the fractured world. They’ll be joined by new characters like the Drawbridge Captain Tarman (inspired by Mad Max director George Miller), Dollman, a robotic puppet, and the enigmatic Tomorrow. The antagonist from the first game, Higgs, returns with a redesigned look, seeking vengeance against Sam and Fragile.

Hideo Kojima recently offered another brief glimpse of Death Stranding 2 with a short teaser, hinting at a more significant reveal at SXSW. The panel will take place at 4 PM Central Time (5 PM Eastern, 2 PM Pacific).  Further details regarding SXSW 2025 will be shared closer to the event.

This announcement follows Sony's confirmation of a new PlayStation State of Play livestream scheduled for February 12th. While Death Stranding 2’s confirmed presence at SXSW might suggest no news at the State of Play, a minor update could still appear, given that the game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive published by Sony.

Many details surrounding Death Stranding 2 remain unknown, including a firm release date.  Currently, the game is slated for release sometime in 2025. Hopefully, Kojima will provide a more concrete launch window during his presentation at SXSW next month, along with further insights into this psychological action title.
