Could a Parasite Eve Remake Be Announced Soon?

Whispers of a Parasite Eve revival are growing louder, suggesting Square Enix may be preparing to unveil exciting news for fans of the classic horror RPG.  A recent leak hints at a potential announcement during the February 12th State of Play presentation, reigniting hopes for a long-awaited remake or remaster.

The original Parasite Eve, released on PlayStation in 1998, made a significant impact as Square's first M-rated title.  Helmed by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, the game drew inspiration from the 1995 Japanese sci-fi horror novel of the same name. Players follow Aya Brea, a New York City police officer, in her desperate fight to prevent Eve from triggering a global catastrophe through spontaneous human combustion.  The game's haunting soundtrack, composed by Yoko Shimomura of Kingdom Hearts fame, and its cinematic presentation have cemented its place as a fan favorite for nearly three decades.

The success of recent horror game remakes, like the acclaimed Resident Evil 2, has set a high bar and fueled demand for similar treatment of other classic titles.  Parasite Eve, with its unique blend of action, RPG elements, and chilling atmosphere, seems ripe for a modern reimagining.

The speculation surrounding a Parasite Eve announcement stems from a now-deleted image shared by a reputable leaker known as Xun.  The image, referencing the February 12th State of Play, was titled "the hypnotic soprano," a likely allusion to Parasite Eve's opera-singing antagonist. Further fueling the speculation, the image also featured a square piece of tofu with the letter "e" embedded within it – a clear nod to Square Enix.

While a new Parasite Eve title might seem like a long shot for this month's State of Play, persistent rumors and the recent leak suggest it may not be entirely out of the question. The franchise hasn't been completely forgotten by Square Enix, despite the lack of official news.  In September 2023, protagonist Aya Brea made a surprise appearance in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, indicating a continued awareness of the character's popularity.

The successful release of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has further bolstered hopes for similar remasters of other classic Square Enix titles, with Parasite Eve frequently mentioned among fan wishlists.  Square Enix is currently working on Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, slated for release in 2025, and has confirmed steady progress on Dragon Quest 12.  However, updates on Kingdom Hearts 4 have been scarce since its announcement in April 2022, leaving fans eager for more information.
