Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Launch Sees Strong Start, Outperforming PS5 and FFXVI Debut

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arrived on PC last week, and unlike the somewhat lackluster performance of the action RPG on PS5, it appears to have enjoyed a solid start with a new player base.

Data from SteamDB reveals that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth peaked at 40,564 concurrent players on Steam over the past weekend. This figure significantly surpasses the concurrent player counts seen at launch for both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5 (13,804 players) and Final Fantasy XVI on PC (27,508 players). In fact, the only Final Fantasy title to boast a higher concurrent player count on Steam is the massively multiplayer online RPG, Final Fantasy XIV (95,150 players).

How does this compare to other recent major RPG releases?  The gap isn't enormous.  Persona 3 Reload, for instance, peaked at 45,002 concurrent players, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth reached 46,161.  However, unlike those titles, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's PC version is a port arriving over a year after its initial console release.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is currently available on PS5 and PC. Rumors suggest the game is also in development for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S.
