The iconic Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise may be gearing up to drop back into the halfpipe with a new remaster.  The long-running skateboarding series, a gaming staple since the late 90s, has delivered a diverse range of titles centered around the popular extreme sport, from the core numbered series to fan-favorite spin-offs like Tony Hawk's Underground.

Recent years have seen the franchise revisit its roots with remasters like the well-received Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 in 2020, which modernized the first two games with updated gameplay and online features. While 2015's Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 attempted a return to the numbered series format, it unfortunately didn't resonate with fans in the same way.

Excitement is now building around a potential new remaster, fueled by a recent interview and a mysterious countdown timer that appeared on the official Tony Hawk Pro Skater website.  While no official announcements have been made, deleted code referencing "thps-3-4-countdown" points towards potential remakes of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4.

The website also lists Iron Galaxy, the developer behind the PC port of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2, as being involved in this new project, further adding fuel to the speculation.

Remasters of Pro Skater 3 and 4 would be a welcome return for many fans, as these titles are often considered the pinnacle of the series.  Pro Skater 3, lauded as one of the greatest games of all time, holds a high rating on the PlayStation 2. Pro Skater 4 was also pivotal in evolving the franchise, significantly changing the Career Mode structure into a format resembling the Story Modes of later games.

This potential resurgence of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater coincides with a wider revitalization of skateboarding games. EA is actively developing a new entry in the Skate franchise, expanding console testing, and several successful indie skateboarding games have also emerged, such as 2022's OlliOlli World, nominated for Best Sports/Racing Game at The Game Awards.

If the rumors are true, these remasters could offer a chance for a new generation of gamers to experience some of the most celebrated entries in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise, while also offering long-time fans a chance to revisit these classics with a fresh coat of paint.
