PUBG: Battlegrounds Unveils Ambitious 2025 Roadmap with Major World Updates and New Game Modes
2025-03-19 20:47:13Krafton, the developer behind PUBG: Battlegrounds, has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for 2025, promising significant updates and new content to enhance the battle royale experience. This announcement coincides with the game's eighth anniversary, demonstrating Krafton's commitment to long-term support and innovation.
Initially released in 2017, PUBG: Battlegrounds quickly rose to prominence, drawing inspiration from Kinji Fukasaku's film 'Battle Royale' and Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene's prior mods. Krafton's recent financial success, with significant increases in sales and operating profit, underscores the enduring popularity of the PUBG IP.
While PUBG's presence in mainstream culture may have shifted, the studio has been actively developing new and engaging projects. A recent YouTube video and blog post detailed Krafton's three core focuses for PUBG: Battlegrounds in 2025: compelling content creation, improved live-service features, and long-term sustainability.
Major world updates are planned for late 2025, featuring revamped maps and the implementation of Destructible Terrain on Taego, Miramar, and Erangel. The Contender character system, designed to offer enhanced player personalization akin to weapon and vehicle skins, will also be introduced. The 8th-anniversary celebration will bring a variety of new skins for players to acquire.
Further expanding gameplay, the roguelike mode 'Project Cyclops' and the map-specific SLB: Miramar will be added. Krafton emphasizes a focus on expandable content, refined actions and interactions, enhanced battle royale combat, and new interactive elements.
The studio has already made strides in this direction with the announcement of PUBG: BLINDSPOT, the series' first tactical shooter spin-off. Players can also anticipate further collaborations with high-profile automotive brands in 2025.
Krafton is dedicated to improving the gaming environment, with ongoing efforts to strengthen its anti-cheat system. This includes advancing machine learning-based detection, enhancing player account security, and implementing preventative measures to maintain fair gameplay.
Building on PUBG's success, Krafton earlier this year outlined plans to expand first-party production and secure new franchise IPs. This includes increased support for their 14 creative studios to bolster new releases and the utilization of second-party publishing and licensing to expand existing user bases for both new and existing IPs, such as Subnautica 2.
