After over a decade of entertaining players, The Simpsons: Tapped Out has officially shut down. A recent Q&A session with a developer, known as mooseday, on the game's subreddit offered insight into the game's development, challenges, and ultimately, its demise.

The developer revealed that at its peak, the team consisted of around 120 people, dwindling to approximately 20 near the end.  Fans inquired about unreleased content discovered through datamining, and mooseday confirmed that some additions were vetoed by Gracie Films, The Simpsons' production company.  Even incorporating the iconic Monorail proved surprisingly difficult, due to both developmental and licensing hurdles.  Licensing restrictions were also the reason the game never made it to PC.

Mooseday also addressed the game's longevity, explaining that it was designed to "last forever."  However, limitations of the 32-bit architecture increasingly hampered development and contributed to some peculiar bugs involving roads and water placement.  This technical constraint played a significant role in the decision to discontinue the game.
