The world of speedrunning is constantly evolving, with players pushing the boundaries of what's possible in various games.  Super Mario 64, a beloved classic, remains a popular choice for speedrunners, nearly three decades after its initial release.  These dedicated players continually discover innovative techniques and strategies to shave precious seconds off their runs, often incorporating additional challenges like playing blindfolded.

One such speedrunner, known as Bubzia, has recently accomplished an extraordinary feat in Super Mario 64. On March 19th, during a live stream, Bubzia shattered the 70-star blindfolded world record, clocking in at an astonishing 1:16:41. This impressive time surpasses his own previous record by over three minutes, showcasing his exceptional skill and dedication to the game.

While collecting 70 stars in Super Mario 64 can be a challenge even for experienced players under normal circumstances, completing this task blindfolded adds another layer of complexity.  Bubzia’s ability to navigate the intricate levels and overcome obstacles without sight is a testament to their intimate knowledge of the game’s mechanics and level design.

Following this remarkable achievement, Bubzia expressed a desire to shift focus towards the 120-star blindfolded category, a challenge for which he currently holds the world record with a time of 11:22:42.  Despite his latest success, Bubzia acknowledges that there's still room for improvement in the 70-star blindfolded run, citing some lost time in the Rainbow Ride section. This leaves the door open for future attempts to further lower the record, either by Bubzia himself or other skilled speedrunners.

This recent triumph is not an isolated incident for Bubzia, who has also broken several other blindfolded world records in Super Mario 64, including the 1-star and 31-star categories.  These accomplishments highlight the growing popularity and competitiveness of blindfolded speedrunning, a testament to the dedication and skill of the players pushing these boundaries.

As speedrunners continue to refine their techniques and strategies, the margin for error becomes increasingly smaller, pushing the limits of what seems achievable.  The future of Super Mario 64 speedrunning promises to be exciting, with the potential for even more impressive records to be broken in the years to come.
