Bloober Team, the developers behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, have released their first developer diary for Cronos: The New Dawn, providing a glimpse into the game's world, inspirations, and terrifying creatures.  This marks the first significant update since the game's initial reveal in late 2024.

The upcoming sci-fi survival horror title is slated for a 2025 release and promises time-traveling mechanics and intense action.  The developer diary, premiered at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, features co-directors Jacek Zieba and Wojciech Piejko discussing the game's core elements.

Cronos: The New Dawn takes inspiration from a diverse range of sci-fi and horror classics, including John Carpenter's The Thing, Netflix's Dark, Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys, and even FromSoftware's Dark Souls series.  Gameplay-wise, players can expect challenging encounters reminiscent of Resident Evil and Dead Space, complete with visceral animations and dismemberment.

While drawing inspiration from Dead Space's combat, the developers emphasize their unique approach to limb-severing action.  The game's setting is an alternate Earth devastated by an apocalyptic event called 'The Change' in the 1980s.

Players assume the role of a 'Traveler,' tasked with traversing time rifts to rescue those lost during The Change.  The world is infested with grotesque monsters known as 'The Orphans,' remnants of humanity twisted by the catastrophic event.

These nightmarish beings, formed from human flesh, are a chilling homage to body horror.  The developer diary showcases a variety of these terrifying creatures without revealing too much.  The co-directors also confirmed details like ladders, unsettling 'walls of flesh,' melee combat, and at least one firearm.

When questioned about the potential presence of extraterrestrial life,  Zieba and Piejko offered a cryptic 'maybe,' leaving fans intrigued and eager for more information.
