The popular board game Frosthaven is receiving a digital makeover, publisher Arc Games recently announced.  PC gamers can get an early look during a closed beta test starting in late March 2025.

Designed by Jason D. Kingsley, Frosthaven originally launched as a massively successful Kickstarter project in 2020, raising almost $13 million and becoming the platform's largest tabletop campaign ever.  It's a standalone sequel to the acclaimed cooperative board game Gloomhaven, designed by Isaac Childres, who also directed the Frosthaven project.  Physical copies of Frosthaven began shipping to Kickstarter backers in 2022.

The Frosthaven video game adaptation was officially unveiled during the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase. The March 20th event showcased a minute-long trailer packed with gameplay footage, revealing the digital version as a turn-based tactical RPG.  Mirroring the tabletop experience, the Frosthaven video game will support one to four players.

Development of the Frosthaven video game is being handled by Snapshot Games, a Bulgarian studio co-founded and led by X-COM creator Julian Gollop.  Founded in 2013, Snapshot operated independently until its acquisition by Saber Interactive, an Embracer Group subsidiary, in 2020.  While a significant portion of Saber was later sold to Beacon Interactive in March 2024, Snapshot remained outside of that $247 million deal.  The studio's portfolio includes titles like the 2019 strategy game Phoenix Point, which was ported to PS4, Xbox One, and the now-defunct Google Stadia in 2021.  Work on Frosthaven seemingly commenced shortly thereafter.

The digital adaptation of Frosthaven will introduce new character classes, encouraging strategic team composition and synergy to maximize limited resources.  Outpost management will also play a key role, with specific features and mechanics tied to building construction and upgrades.  Online co-op multiplayer will support two to four players.

Frosthaven is currently slated for a 2025 release on PC via Steam Early Access.  Console releases remain unconfirmed.  Prior to the Early Access launch, a closed beta test is planned for March 27th at 9am PT, running until April 24th.  Information on how to participate in the limited-spot beta can be found on the game's official website.  The playtest will include six starting classes, 20 quests, and initial outpost building mechanics.
