A fresh wave of terror is about to hit the PC gaming scene with the upcoming release of Eyes Never Wake, a horror game that utilizes a unique and potentially terrifying gameplay mechanic: your webcam.  This innovative approach promises to blur the lines between the virtual world and reality, creating a truly immersive and chilling experience.

While traditional horror games continue to thrive, many developers are seeking new ways to frighten and surprise players.  Using unexpected elements can leave a lasting impression and genuinely scare players, and Eyes Never Wake is aiming to do just that.  Similar to voice-activated scares in games like Lethal Company and Phasmophobia, Eyes Never Wake uses the webcam to create tension and dread, but with a physical twist.

Eyes Never Wake takes the concept of interactive horror a step further.  A demonstration video shows a player scanning their face with their webcam, which is then displayed within the game.  The player explores a creepy labyrinth with seemingly permeable walls hinting at hidden secrets.  However, the real terror comes in the form of a giant monster.  Whenever this creature appears on screen, players must physically duck out of sight of their webcam, as the monster can 'see' them and will attack if they're spotted.

The use of a webcam raises understandable privacy concerns.  However, the developer has addressed these worries by assuring players that no data or images are uploaded, copied, or shared.  Options are available for streamers and privacy-conscious players, including preventing the game from displaying their faces while still utilizing the webcam functionality.  For those who prefer a more traditional experience, the game can be played entirely without a webcam, though the exact mechanics of this mode remain unclear.

The developers have also anticipated attempts to 'cheat' the system. Blocking the webcam will immobilize the player, preventing them from simply covering the camera to avoid the monster.  This forces players to physically react and hide, adding another layer of immersion and fear.

While it remains to be seen if Eyes Never Wake can deliver on its promises of unique scares and engaging gameplay, the premise has already intrigued many. The game is currently available to wishlist on Steam for PC.
