Overwatch 2 to Introduce New Maps and Game Modes in 2025

Overwatch 2 recently revealed exciting future content, including two new maps and a novel game mode.  The upcoming maps, Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo, promise to diversify the game's battlefield landscape after Season 19.

The recent Overwatch 2 Spotlight event unveiled a wealth of information, including Perks in Season 15 and the innovative Stadium game mode planned for Season 16.  The event concluded with concept art showcasing the two new maps, Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo, set to arrive later in 2025. Details regarding the objectives and gameplay mechanics of these maps remain scarce, but the Overwatch 2 development team has assured players that more information will be shared in the future.

While the exact release date remains unknown, the two new maps are slated to arrive after Season 19. Considering Overwatch 2's typical two-month seasonal cadence, Season 19 is projected to conclude around October 2025. This suggests that Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo may be introduced in Season 20 or a separate update around December 2025.

Tokyo joins the existing Japanese maps of Hanamura, Hanaoka, and Kanezaka.  However, unlike its predecessors, which primarily showcase traditional Japanese aesthetics, Tokyo embraces a futuristic, metropolitan setting. These locations are geographically connected within the larger Tokyo area, reinforcing the new map's thematic ties to heroes such as Genji, Hanzo, and Kiriko.

Atlantic Arcology represents a different environment altogether. This independent scientific research station, operated by The Collective (an organization affiliated with Lifeweaver), has been subtly hinted at in other Overwatch 2 maps.  Players are encouraged to explore Atlantic Arcology for potential connections to the popular fan-made Arcade map, Talantis.

Beyond new maps, Overwatch 2 is also preparing reworks for existing maps, including Suravasa and New Junk City, the original Flashpoint maps. Several other classic game mode maps will also undergo revisions.  While the timeline for these map updates remains unconfirmed, they are expected to roll out sometime during 2025.
