Avowed Joins Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Expanding the RPG Library

The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library continues to grow with the addition of the highly anticipated RPG, Avowed.  This marks the fourth new title to grace Microsoft's subscription service in February 2025, and the 17th addition since the start of the year.

Developed by the award-winning Obsidian Entertainment, known for acclaimed RPGs like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, and South Park: The Stick of Truth, Avowed represents their first RPG release since The Outer Worlds in late 2019.

Launched on February 18th, Avowed debuted as a day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, following the established pattern for titles from Microsoft-owned studios. The fantasy RPG was available to some XGP Ultimate members even earlier, from February 13th, thanks to the Premium Upgrade Addon combined with their subscription, priced at $22.49 after the 10% subscriber discount.

Initial reviews for Avowed have been positive, with a "Strong" rating on OpenCritic based on an average score of 82 and an 84% recommendation rate.  Steam users have also responded favorably with thousands of "Very Positive" reviews, alongside a 4-star rating on the Xbox Store. Praise centers on its engaging combat, witty dialogue, and compelling choice-driven quests. Some criticisms point to limited skill trees and repetitive exploration elements.

While Avowed is currently exclusive to the Ultimate and PC tiers of Xbox Game Pass, it is expected to become available on the standard tier within six months, possibly as early as August 2025.  This follows the typical release pattern for Microsoft, bringing day-one Ultimate titles to the standard tier later in the year.

Available on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and via Xbox Cloud Gaming, Avowed requires 71GB to 75GB of storage space (excluding cloud versions). Early estimates suggest a playthrough time of around 20 hours, though replay value is enhanced by the choice-driven narrative.

As the fourth and final game in the first wave of February 2025's Xbox Game Pass releases, Avowed represents a significant addition to the service. Its arrival further solidifies Xbox Game Pass as a premier destination for RPG fans.
