New Battlefield Game Aims to Blend Best Elements of Franchise History

A recent sneak peek of the new Battlefield game has sparked nostalgia among long-time fans, particularly those fond of Battlefield 3 and 4.  As EA and DICE gear up for the first external playtest, positive buzz surrounding the game is beginning to build.

According to David Sirland, lead producer on the upcoming title, the new Battlefield will combine the strengths of previous entries in the franchise.

Responding to fan feedback criticizing the vehicle handling and physics in Battlefield 2042, Sirland acknowledged the shortcomings and affirmed DICE's awareness of the issues. He highlighted the studio's approach of "cherry-picking" the best elements from past games.

"We are very aware of what didn’t land well last time, the time before that and the other time," Sirland explained.  "We’re in the 'cherry-pick the best of the best' strategy across each area.  You’ll have to play to see what I mean."

This "best-of" approach involves revisiting earlier Battlefield titles to craft what they hope will be the definitive installment.  Battlefield 6 is expected to draw inspiration from various sources, potentially including the atmosphere of Battlefield 1, the fluid movement of Battlefield 5, the gunplay of Battlefield 3 or 4, and the destructibility of Bad Company 2.

If DICE successfully integrates these elements, the new Battlefield could become the first-person shooter fans have been craving.  However, after recent disappointments with the franchise, it's wise to temper expectations.

Online commentators have expressed enthusiasm for this approach, citing specific features they hope to see return, including:

* The Commander Mode and expanded class system from Battlefield 2

* The immersive sound design of Battlefield 3

* The map design of Battlefield 3 and 4

* The dynamic Levolution events from Battlefield 4

* The extensive destructibility of Bad Company 2

* The gritty atmosphere of Battlefield 1

* The fortification system from Battlefield 5

Many players fondly recall the impactful atmosphere of Battlefield 3, which set a high bar for the series.
