Bit Reactor's Turn-Based Star Wars Strategy Game Reveal Approaching

Bit Reactor's much-anticipated Star Wars strategy game is finally emerging from the shadows. Disney has confirmed that the game will be revealed at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025, taking place from April 18th to 20th at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba City. The developer's panel is scheduled for April 19th at 4:30pm local time.

Comprised of seasoned Firaxis Games veterans, Bit Reactor, an independent studio founded in Hunt Valley, Maryland in 2021, has been relatively quiet since the project's initial announcement in late January 2022.  This collaboration with Electronic Arts subsidiary Respawn Entertainment has generated significant buzz within the strategy gaming community.

The Star Wars universe has explored various genres in gaming, but strategy has been notably absent in recent years. The timing of this reveal is perfect, offering an opportunity to reintroduce this beloved genre to a galaxy far, far away.

The approaching reveal suggests the game's development is well underway. While officially announced in early 2022, the project is speculated to have begun in late 2021, coinciding with Bit Reactor's establishment.  Considering typical AAA development timelines of roughly five years, the game could be nearing completion.  Its presence at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 hints at a potential appearance on Star Wars Day the following month.

In a June 2024 interview with PC Gamer, Bit Reactor co-founder Greg Foertsch expressed ambitious goals for the title, aiming for a blend of complexity and accessibility with high production values. Given the team's experience with acclaimed franchises like XCOM and Civilization, anticipation is high among fans of those series.

The Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 schedule explicitly mentions that Bit Reactor's title is turn-based, confirming previous speculation. Respawn Entertainment, known for the Star Wars Jedi series, is acting as publisher for the project. While Respawn reportedly faced a setback with the cancellation of a Mandalorian FPS in early 2024 due to cost-cutting at EA, Bit Reactor assured fans that their Star Wars project remained unaffected.
