Astro's Playroom Gets Surprise Update with PS5 Pro Artifact and More

The pre-installed PS5 gem, Astro's Playroom, has delighted players with a surprise update, bringing the PS5 Pro and other PlayStation accessories into its collectible artifact showcase. Though launched over four years ago, developer Team Asobi continues to show love for this fan-favorite platformer.

Originally released in 2020, Astro's Playroom served as a captivating introduction to the PS5's DualSense controller, highlighting its innovative features. It also laid the groundwork for the award-winning Astro Bot, Team Asobi's 2024 hit which garnered numerous Game of the Year accolades.

The February 2025 update introduces the PS5 Pro as a collectible artifact, obtainable through the in-game gacha machine.  Along with the console, the update quietly adds the PS5 Pulse Elite Headset and Pulse Explore Earbuds to the collection, though these additions weren't formally announced by Team Asobi.  Players can proudly display giant versions of these artifacts in the PlayStation Labo area.  The update also refreshes Astro's Playroom's boot-up cover art.

This isn't the first time Astro's Playroom has received unexpected content years after launch. Previously, the game hosted an in-game celebration for Astro Bot's global release, showcasing the endearing connection between the two titles.

The addition of the PS5 Pro artifact provides an enticing reason to revisit Astro's Playroom.  Moreover, the game boasts one of the easiest platinum trophies on the PS5, offering a rewarding challenge for completionists. Interestingly, despite its inclusion as an in-game artifact, Astro's Playroom didn't receive any PS5 Pro enhancements at the console's launch, even though it's pre-installed on every PS5 Pro system.

While the latest Astro's Playroom update was a quiet arrival, Team Asobi and PlayStation have been actively promoting new free DLC for Astro Bot. The first two levels debuted on February 13th and 20th, with weekly releases planned until March 13th.  A new Time Attack mode will become available after completing all DLC levels.  The future of Astro's Playroom updates remains uncertain, but given Astro Bot's remarkable success, continued support seems likely for the acclaimed sequel.
