Veteran game developer People Can Fly, the studio behind titles like Outriders and contributions to the Gears of War franchise, has announced a new partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. This collaboration will see People Can Fly develop a new AAA title, codenamed Project Delta, based on an undisclosed Sony IP.

The Polish studio has a rich history in game development, dating back to 2002.  From porting the original Gears of War to PC to developing the cooperative shooter Outriders, People Can Fly has established itself as a prominent player in the industry.

This latest partnership with Sony follows a series of high-profile collaborations for People Can Fly. The studio is currently involved in several ongoing projects, including Project Gemini with Square Enix, announced in February 2023, and Project Echo with Krafton, the publisher behind PUBG: Battlegrounds, announced in September 2024.

The agreement with Sony is structured as a work-for-hire arrangement, meaning Sony will retain ownership of the Project Delta IP.  While details regarding the game's genre, platform, and release date remain scarce, the partnership signifies a significant step for both companies. Sony gains access to People Can Fly's development expertise, while People Can Fly further solidifies its position as a sought-after development partner for major publishers.

Adding this new Sony-backed game to their roster highlights People Can Fly's continued growth despite past challenges. The studio conducted layoffs in December 2024, impacting projects like Project Bifrost and Project Victoria.  However, this new venture demonstrates their resilience and ability to secure significant partnerships within the competitive gaming landscape.

In early 2025, People Can Fly was also revealed as a co-developer for Gears of War: E-Day, adding further anticipation for their upcoming projects. Given their prior experience with the Gears of War franchise, it will be intriguing to see how their expertise translates to this new installment.

With a diverse range of projects in development across various genres and in collaboration with leading publishers, People Can Fly seems poised for a busy and productive period in the coming years.
