Remedy Entertainment has announced that its psychological thriller, Alan Wake 2, has finally achieved profitability. According to the company's recent financial report, the game has recouped all development and marketing expenses as of the end of 2024, sixteen months after its initial release.

Originally launched on October 27, 2023, for PC (via Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and GeForce Now, Alan Wake 2 was developed using Remedy's proprietary Northlight engine.

As of November 2024, the game had yet to break even.  However, several factors likely contributed to its eventual profitability.  These include the launch of a physical edition in Fall 2024 and the release of two paid DLC expansions, which provided additional revenue streams.

While the Epic Games Store exclusivity likely helped secure funding for the game's development, speculation remains regarding the potential impact on sales.  Some industry analysts believe a broader launch, including Steam, might have led to quicker profitability.  This was further fueled by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney's confirmation in late January that Alan Wake 2 would remain exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC.
