The Sinking City 2 has emerged from the depths with its first gameplay reveal, coinciding with the launch of its Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.

Announced earlier this year, The Sinking City 2 is a Lovecraftian survival horror game developed by Frogwares, the Ukrainian studio renowned for its numerous Sherlock Holmes titles.  Building upon the semi-open world design of its 2019 predecessor, the sequel promises a compelling blend of exploration, investigative gameplay, and survival elements.

The Kickstarter campaign aims to raise €105,000 (approximately $113,000), a notable increase compared to the funding sought for their previous crowdfunded project, the remake of Sherlock Holmes The Awakened. That prior campaign significantly exceeded expectations, raising over $270,000 – 260% of its initial goal.  Like the Sherlock Holmes remake, Frogwares is offering two Collector's Editions of The Sinking City 2 exclusively to Kickstarter backers. In fact, supporting the crowdfunding initiative will be the sole method of obtaining a physical copy of the game.

The newly released gameplay teaser offers a glimpse into The Sinking City 2's core mechanics.  The short video showcases exploration, clue-gathering, and combat sequences, highlighting the variety of terrifying enemies players will encounter.

Set in a 1920s rendition of Arkham, the fictional Massachusetts city central to H.P. Lovecraft's works, The Sinking City 2 tasks players with investigating a paranormal flood unleashing monstrous horrors upon the remaining inhabitants, echoing the events of Oakmont in the original game.

Frogwares positions The Sinking City 2 as a key step in its transition towards prioritizing horror game development while continuing to refine its open-world expertise. The studio is also reportedly working on a remaster of the original The Sinking City, suggested by a regulatory rating leak earlier this year. While unconfirmed, an official announcement seems imminent, especially as the game's sixth anniversary approaches.
