Nintendo has expanded its Switch Online SNES library with the addition of four strategic classics from Koei Tecmo. Two entries from the acclaimed Nobunaga's Ambition series join Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4: Wall of Fire and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons, offering subscribers a deep dive into historical and nautical strategy.

Originally released on PC in 1986 and later ported to the SNES in 1993, Nobunaga's Ambition immerses players in the 16th-century campaigns of the legendary Japanese warlord, Oda Nobunaga.  Players strive to unify Japan, repelling rival forces and strategically managing resources.  The series has seen numerous iterations, including the recent 2022 release, Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening.  Koei Tecmo's strategic expertise also extends to other franchises, notably their collaboration with The Pokémon Company on the 2012 DS title, Pokémon Conquest.

Joining the original Nobunaga's Ambition on the SNES app is its sequel, Nobunaga's Ambition: Lord of Darkness.  These titles are accompanied by two other engaging Koei Tecmo strategies: Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4: Wall of Fire and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons.  All four games became available on March 28th, requiring a small update to the SNES app.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4: Wall of Fire places players in command of up to 38 rulers, deploying diverse weaponry, including catapults and battering rams, to overcome enemy fortifications. In contrast, Uncharted Waters: New Horizons offers open-sea exploration, allowing players to choose from six distinct protagonists, each with their own unique narrative.

These additions follow the recent arrival of Donkey Kong and Mario's Picross to the Game Boy app earlier in March.  However, the expansion comes with a departure, as Super Soccer was removed from the SNES service on March 28th.  Whether Super Soccer will return to the Switch Online library remains uncertain.

The timing of Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4: Wall of Fire's inclusion is particularly noteworthy, as the North American version approaches its 30th anniversary in July 2025. With anticipation building for the next generation of Nintendo Switch, speculation abounds regarding future additions to the Switch Online service and the classic titles that await players.
