Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PC Performance Enhanced with Patch 5

Insomniac Games and Nixxes Software have released Patch 5 for the PC version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, delivering a range of performance enhancements, graphical improvements, and critical bug fixes based on player feedback.

Following its initial PS5 release in October 2023, the PC port launched in January 2025, aiming to showcase advanced features such as enhanced ray-traced reflections and DirectStorage support.  However, the initial launch was marred by performance problems, including stuttering, upscaling issues, crashes, and overall instability.

Patch 5, following closely behind Patch 4, introduces a significant upgrade to DirectStorage 1.2.3, designed to mitigate stuttering, especially during web-swinging.  Previous implementations of DirectStorage with GPU decompression caused problems for users with less than 8GB of VRAM, an issue this patch aims to resolve. Further optimizations target performance when playing as Venom, combating Symbiote enemies, and during related cutscenes.

Nvidia DLSS Ray Reconstruction also receives enhancements, reducing noise in shadowed facial details and refining ray-traced ambient occlusion and reflections.  Beyond performance, the patch tackles several quality-of-life issues, such as UI elements failing to load during Prowler side quests when frame generation and upscaling are enabled.  The Hunter Blinds minigame now displays controls correctly, and mouse and keyboard input issues in Photo Mode have also been rectified.

These updates mark a significant step forward for the PC version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, with numerous players reporting substantial improvements, particularly in performance. Initial tests of Update 5 have been positive, and the ongoing commitment of Insomniac and Nixxes to incorporate player feedback is promising for the future of the PC port.
