Assassin's Creed Mirage's Historical Accuracy: Fact vs. Fiction in Feudal Japan
2025-02-24 15:29:12Since its announcement, Assassin's Creed Mirage has sparked debate surrounding its depiction of feudal Japan, with some media outlets and fans raising concerns about historical inaccuracies.
In a recent interview with Japanese gaming publication 4Gamer, creative director Jonathan Dumont addressed these concerns. "Our hope is that through Assassin's Creed, people will learn about the historical background and events, and become interested in history," he stated.
When questioned about the meaning of "faithful to history" in the context of the game, Dumont clarified, "'Faithful to history' is about the realistic details of things. Assassin's Creed Mirage is fictional; it doesn't claim to be real history. Those interested in real history can visit museums and other places to learn about it."
Producer Marc-Alexis Côté echoed this sentiment, reiterating that since the series' inception in 2007, the fictional nature of the Assassin's Creed universe has been clear. Their goal, he explained, is to create an engaging and immersive experience within a historically inspired world, rather than a strictly accurate historical simulation.
