The highly anticipated Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 remake is tapping into a potent wave of nostalgia, not only with its revamped classic gameplay but also with the resurrection of a beloved internet meme: Doom Doot.

Officially revealed on March 4, 2025, the trailer showcased updated visuals for the iconic skate parks and tricks, bringing the experience to current-gen consoles and PCs.  Originally developed by Neversoft and released in 2001 and 2002, the remakes are being handled by Iron Galaxy, the studio known for its work on Killer Instinct's second and third seasons.

While the return of classic levels and gameplay has longtime fans excited, the inclusion of characters from id Software's 1993 shooter, Doom, has broadened the appeal.  Doom Slayer and Revenant are joining the roster as playable skaters.  Adding a unique twist, Revenant incorporates the Doom Doot meme by playing a trumpet fanfare during tricks.

For those unfamiliar with the meme's origins, 'Doot Doot' refers to a low-resolution GIF of a skull playing a trumpet, originating in 1999.  It gained significant traction in 2011, appearing on Call of Duty forums and Steam communities.  Variations emerged, including 'Doom Doot,' featuring a trumpet-wielding Revenant. The meme has seen previous use in gaming, notably in Xbox's 2021 Halo ODST DOOTS video, which featured the skull playing along to the game's theme song.

The Digital Deluxe Edition of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 offers more than just nostalgic memes.  Players who pre-order this edition will receive bonus content including unique skate decks, Create-a-Skater apparel, extra in-game music, an Unmaykr Hoverboard, and three days of early access. With the game set to release on July 11, further gameplay reveals are expected.
