EA Play to Remove Two Games in March 2025
2025-03-09 04:13:11EA Play subscribers will be losing access to two titles in March 2025. The subscription service, available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox (included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate), offers a library of EA published games and often provides free trials of new releases.
While the EA Play library remains relatively static compared to other subscription services, games are occasionally removed due to expiring licenses, server shutdowns, or other factors.
The two games slated for removal are Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, a 2009 tactical shooter, and Frostpunk, a critically acclaimed city-building survival game from 2018. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising departs on March 14th, followed by Frostpunk on March 28th. The reasons behind their removal haven't been publicly disclosed.
Developed and published by Codemasters, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising became part of the EA catalog after the company's acquisition in 2021. Frostpunk was developed and published by 11 Bit Studios. Subscribers are encouraged to experience these titles while they remain available.
Beyond these removals, EA is also shutting down servers for several other titles. EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 and NCAA Football 14 are both ceasing operations on March 13th. While neither game is currently part of the EA Play library, their closures still mark a loss for fans. Additionally, online multiplayer servers for Madden NFL 21 will be shut down on June 30th.
EA typically removes games from EA Play before server shutdowns, so Madden NFL 21 won't be playable through the subscription service leading up to its server closure.
Despite occasional game removals, an EA Play subscription can still be valuable for regular players, especially those interested in the company's yearly sports titles, albeit with a potential waiting period of around six months for access.
