The highly anticipated Sims Legacy Collections, bringing back The Sims and The Sims 2 to modern systems, have been met with widespread crashing problems and a variety of bugs, leading to significant frustration among fans.

Initially, players expressed excitement upon EA's announcement of the Legacy Collections, which promised the base games and most of the DLC content.  However, this excitement quickly turned to disappointment as players encountered numerous technical issues.

Released on January 31, 2025, both The Sims Legacy Collection and The Sims 2 Legacy Collection have been plagued with problems from the start. Players report frequent crashes to desktop, resulting in lost progress, corrupted saves, and overall frustration.  While EA has acknowledged the issues and released several patches, many players continue to experience problems.

Reports on the official EA forums and Steam communities detail a wide range of issues, from complete game crashes to strange bugs that leave towns empty of Sims and buildings.  Triggers for these crashes seem to vary widely, including using 3x speed, burglar appearances, in-game marriages, and even extended gameplay sessions.

Beyond crashes, players have encountered bizarre bugs such as disappearing family members, endlessly looping music, and unresponsive Sims. Although some report improvements after recent updates, many are still struggling to enjoy the games.

Adding to the frustration, the pricing of the Legacy Collections has been a point of contention.  The $19.99 price tag for The Sims Legacy Collection and $29.99 for The Sims 2 Legacy Collection struck many fans as excessive for games that are 25 and 21 years old, respectively.  While functional games might have justified the cost, the numerous technical issues have only fueled player discontent.

The extent of the problems raises questions about the quality assurance process before release.  While EA's ongoing efforts to address the issues are commendable, the persistence of significant bugs after multiple patches is concerning.  The situation remains fluid, and it remains to be seen how EA will ultimately resolve these issues and regain player trust.
