The Thing: Remastered Gets Console Enhancements and Bug Fixes

Nightdive Studios has released a significant update for The Thing: Remastered, bringing a plethora of improvements and bug fixes to console versions.  Nightdive, known for reviving classic games for modern audiences, has previously remastered titles like Turok, Doom, Quake, and Shadow Man. The Thing: Remastered adds another success to their portfolio, following its December 2024 release as the studio's fastest-selling launch title.

Originally a 2002 release for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, The Thing, developed by Computer Artworks, combined squad-based shooter gameplay with survival horror elements, drawing inspiration from John Carpenter’s acclaimed 1982 film.  The remaster continues the story, following Captain Blake, a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces, as he investigates the aftermath of an alien outbreak at an Antarctic outpost.

Deployed on February 11, 2025, Patch 1.1 addresses several issues, including crashes experienced when exiting the game or battling the creature, corrects display issues related to depth of field, and even provides Whitley with new trousers. Performance improvements also extend to the Steam Deck, unlocking the frame rate when using the Vulkan renderer, and the Nintendo Switch.

The remaster has been praised for addressing issues present in the original game, and the recent update has been well-received by fans.  One fan on Twitter inquired about a physical release, prompting Nightdive to confirm that more information would be shared later in the year.

Following the success of The Thing: Remastered, fans are eager to see what Nightdive tackles next.  One suggestion is Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, the 2005 survival horror game that, while commercially unsuccessful, gained a cult following for its faithful adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Nightdive's mission to revive forgotten classics resonates with nostalgic gamers, and the community's wishlist for remasters continues to grow.
