Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii's PC Launch Trails Behind Infinite Wealth, But PlayStation Performance Strong
2025-02-24 02:29:38The recently released Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii appears to be experiencing a slower start on PC compared to its predecessor, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, based on initial data. Despite this, the game's performance on PlayStation consoles seems promising.
Launched on February 21st across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, official sales figures from Sega are still pending. However, early comparisons with Infinite Wealth, which celebrated its first anniversary on January 26th, offer some insight.
Data from SteamDB indicates that Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii reached a peak concurrent player count of 22,327 on February 23rd, approximately half of Infinite Wealth's early peak. This trend is mirrored in Steam user reviews, with Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii receiving 2,081 reviews compared to Infinite Wealth's 3,062 reviews just two days after its release.
While Infinite Wealth holds the record for the largest Steam launch in the Like a Dragon franchise, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii's seemingly lower initial figures don't necessarily indicate a lack of success. Estimates from VG Insights, PlayTracker, and Gamalytic suggest around 93,000 Steam copies sold in the first few days. These same sources estimate Infinite Wealth's lifetime Steam sales to be approximately 565,000. Sega previously reported 1 million sales of Infinite Wealth across all platforms within the first week. For perspective, the entire Like a Dragon franchise surpassed 20 million lifetime sales in late 2024.
Interestingly, user reviews on the PlayStation Store paint a different picture. Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii currently boasts 2,224 reviews, surpassing Infinite Wealth's 1,179 reviews within the same timeframe. However, varying purchase-to-review ratios between the two games on the PlayStation Store may make this comparison less conclusive.
On the Xbox Store, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has garnered only 102 player reviews. While historical data for Infinite Wealth's early Xbox performance is difficult to obtain, it currently has 540 reviews.
