Bloodborne's 10th Anniversary: A Decade of Silence, Still No PS5 Upgrade

Today marks a decade since the release of the critically acclaimed PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne. Yet, despite its enduring popularity and fervent fan base, there's been no official word on a next-gen upgrade, a remaster, or even a sequel.

Launched on March 24, 2015, FromSoftware's gothic masterpiece continues to captivate players, solidifying its position as one of PlayStation's most celebrated titles. The love for this FromSoftware classic has only grown over the years.

However, since its initial release, the silence has been deafening.  The absence of any significant updates or announcements regarding Bloodborne's future has left fans bewildered.

The question remains: why hasn't Sony greenlit a next-gen remaster, a full-fledged sequel, or at the very least, a PS5 patch to unlock a smoother 60fps experience?  The pleas from the dedicated community have echoed for years, only to be met with silence.  This inaction remains one of the most puzzling business decisions in the gaming industry.

Earlier this year, we received a possible, albeit unofficial, explanation.  PlayStation veteran Shuhei Yoshida, after departing from Sony's first-party studios, offered his personal perspective on the Bloodborne situation during an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He emphasized that this was not inside information or a revelation of ongoing internal discussions.

Yoshida stated, "Bloodborne is the one title that everybody keeps asking why we don’t do anything about it, like, a remaster or an update. It should be very easy, right? Sony’s known for making many remasters. Some were very disappointed by that."

He continued, "I have only my personal guess about the situation. I have left the front line, so I don't know what's going on right now, but my personal guess is that – I remember Miyazaki-san was really, really attached to Bloodborne, the creation he made. So I imagine he has an interest but is just too successful and too busy right now and he doesn't want anyone to touch it. That's my guess. And PlayStation respects his wish. So that's my pure speculation. I'm not disclosing any secret."

While Yoshida's insights offer a plausible explanation, they remain just that – speculation.  The mystery surrounding Bloodborne's future persists.
