The Twisted Metal franchise seemed poised for a comeback with a successful TV series and a reboot game in development.  However, the game's cancellation has put the series' future in question, leaving fans disappointed.

Rumors of a Twisted Metal revival had sparked excitement, potentially capitalizing on PlayStation's rich catalog of classic games. Sadly, the reboot was shelved, leaving the series in limbo until recently.

A report from VGC highlights information gleaned from the updated CV of a former lead UI programmer at Firesprite, a PlayStation studio. While not explicitly naming Twisted Metal, the details strongly suggest Project Copper was indeed the rumored reboot.

The CV describes Project Copper as a third-person vehicular action combat game based on a classic PlayStation IP. It featured third-person shooter mechanics and a battle royale format, with the goal of being the "last one standing."

Included were blurred images marked "UNDER NDA," two showcasing vehicular combat reminiscent of previous Twisted Metal games, and two depicting the player on foot, taking cover from enemy fire.

Project Copper's battle royale approach marked a significant departure from the traditional Twisted Metal formula. This aligned with Sony's previous strategy of investing in live-service games, but unfortunately, Project Copper was among those cancelled as Sony shifted gears following the failure of other projects.

The future of the Twisted Metal franchise remains uncertain, but fans still hold hope for its eventual revival.
