Monster Hunter Wilds: Weapon Changes, Beta Details, and Gameplay Enhancements
2025-01-24 22:01:36The highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds, successor to Monster Hunter: World, is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in February 2025. Directors Yuya Tokuda and Kaname Fujioka recently revealed key details about the game's weapon updates, open-world biomes, the new Seikret mount, and the focus on delivering a fluid hunting experience.
A second beta test, launching in February 2025, will feature content from the initial test, a new monster hunt (including the Gypceros), and character carryover. Player feedback from this beta will further refine the gameplay before the official launch on February 28th, 2025. Participants will also receive an exclusive OBT 2 Bonus Item Pack for the full game.
The development team has rebalanced several weapon types to integrate seamlessly with the game's open-world design. Bowguns and Bows, for instance, will no longer require resource replenishment after each quest, instead utilizing a gauge system for ammo and coatings. Tokuda highlighted the Great Sword as the initial focus for weapon animations, serving as a prototype for other weapons like the Sword and Shield and Heavy Bowgun.
Each of the game's 14 weapon types has received updates to maintain the franchise's fresh feel for both veterans and new players. Popular weapons like the Great Sword, Long Sword, and Bow are anticipated to be favorites again, alongside the classic Dual Blades. Wilds introduces the Focus Strike, a powerful weapon-specific attack, and a new wounds system inflicting persistent damage on monsters.
A limited-time collaboration with Monster Hunter Now offers players bonus items for completing Collab Event Quests. Rewards include a gift code for in-game items in Wilds, such as Mega Potions, Energy Drinks, Dust of Life, and more.
