Marvel Rivals Mid-Season Update: The Thing's Trench Coat, Central Park Battleground, and 40 Million Players!

The popular hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has reached a staggering 40 million players since its launch in December 2024, according to a recent NetEase Games earnings call. This milestone comes hot on the heels of the game's successful Steam launch, which saw it topping both sales and concurrent player charts.

The game's popularity shows no signs of slowing down, as NetEase Games has teased exciting new content in a recent mid-season update.  Players can look forward to battling it out in a new Central Park map, now under the control of Dracula and his vampire army.  The update will also introduce Human Torch alongside The Thing on February 21st.

One of the most anticipated additions is a stylish Trench Coat costume for The Thing.  This noir-inspired outfit transforms him into a grizzled detective, complete with a wide-brimmed hat, matching trench coat, journal, sunglasses, and a camera.  The Thing even uses his journal during his MVP animation.

Leaks suggest the Epic rarity costume will be part of a bundle costing 1,600 Units in-game.  The costume will be available as soon as the mid-season update goes live after a scheduled three-hour maintenance period starting at 1 AM PST on February 21.

The 1.5 update also introduces several quality-of-life improvements.  Players can now trade extra Chrono Tokens for Units, providing more opportunities to acquire free cosmetics.  Additionally, a highly requested feature addresses the issue of players being placed into Quick Matches that end almost immediately.  Now, players who leave at the very end of a Quick Match will no longer be substituted.
