Escape from Tarkov

In a recent Tarkov TV broadcast, Battlestate Games COO Nikita Buyanov delivered disappointing news for console players hoping to experience the intense tactical shooter. When asked about potential console ports, Buyanov jokingly suggested the game would come to Game Boy before PlayStation or Xbox - a clear indication that console versions aren't in development.

This stance marks a shift from the studio's previous position. Back in 2020, former developer Pavel Dyatlov had hinted that console ports might be considered after a Steam release. However, five years later, the game still hasn't arrived on Valve's platform, with Buyanov confirming a Steam version won't happen until after the 1.0 release.

The Road to 1.0

After nearly eight years in beta since its July 2017 debut, Escape from Tarkov is finally approaching its official launch. The recently revealed 2025 roadmap indicates the game will exit beta following the 0.16.9.0 update in August, with the full release expected in Q4 2025.

Before then, players can look forward to the 0.16.6.0 update in May, bringing:

  • Improved AI behavior and game balance
  • Lighthouse map optimizations
  • Shoreline audio enhancements
  • A special in-game event

While console players may be disappointed, PC gamers can anticipate the most polished version of this hardcore extraction shooter yet when version 1.0 arrives next year. The extended development period has allowed Battlestate Games to refine the experience based on years of player feedback, potentially making the wait worthwhile for dedicated fans.
