Helldivers 2, released last year as a PlayStation exclusive, quickly garnered critical acclaim and commercial success.  Winning multiple awards, including Game Awards for Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer Game, it solidified its place as a must-play multiplayer experience on PlayStation.

This success is notable given PlayStation's recent focus on single-player titles, while Xbox has traditionally championed multiplayer gaming with franchises like Halo, Gears of War, and Call of Duty.  The unexpected triumph of Helldivers 2 fueled a desire among Xbox players to experience the game on their platform.

Shortly after launch, an online petition on Change.org emerged, urging Sony to consider an Xbox port. Initially attracting around 25,000 signatures, the petition has now grown to over 133,000, demonstrating the significant demand for Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X and S.

Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind Helldivers 2, maintains active communication with its community. CEO Shams Jorjani recently addressed the absence of a content roadmap, explaining the studio's preference for a more spontaneous development approach.

The feasibility of Helldivers 2 appearing on Xbox consoles remains uncertain. While Xbox has recently allowed several of its first-party titles to grace PlayStation platforms, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Forza Horizon 5, along with upcoming multiplatform releases like Doom: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2,  reciprocity from PlayStation is less certain.

Despite the possibility of future PlayStation exclusives appearing on Xbox being debated, with some rumors even suggesting Halo and a Gears of War collection could eventually make the jump, many remain skeptical about PlayStation adopting such a strategy with its own key franchises.

However, among PlayStation's first-party lineup, Helldivers 2 seems a potential candidate for cross-platform release, given its multiplayer focus and the substantial interest from the Xbox community.

Should a port ever materialize, the announcement would likely occur at a major gaming event such as an Xbox showcase or Summer Game Fest. Xbox gamers hoping to play Helldivers 2 are encouraged to support the petition, as while it cannot guarantee a port,  a higher signature count underscores the potential market for Sony.
