As the Nintendo Switch 2 launch approaches, CD Projekt Red has officially announced that the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will utilize Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology across both Handheld and Docked modes. The Switch 2 adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077 will feature a 30 FPS Quality Mode alongside a 40 FPS Performance Mode, designed to work seamlessly with variable refresh rate displays.

This revelation comes during a bustling period for Nintendo leading up to the Switch 2's release. Following delays in US and Canadian pre-orders due to global trade tariffs, Nintendo confirmed that pre-orders will commence on Thursday, April 24, available through major retailers such as Best Buy and GameStop. While the console and game prices remain unaffected by tariffs, accessories like the Switch 2 Pro Controller and USB-C Camera have seen slight price adjustments.

With the Switch 2 boasting a more powerful Nvidia processor than its predecessor, developers can leverage advanced features like DLSS to optimize performance. According to Nintendo Life, CD Projekt Red informed Digital Foundry that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will employ Nvidia's DLSS upscaling on the Switch 2 to enhance performance across various modes. Players can choose between Quality Mode, locked at 30 frames per second (FPS), or a 40 FPS Performance Mode. These modes adapt dynamically based on whether the Switch 2 is docked or handheld, providing up to four distinct upscaling configurations.

The Switch 2 Version Of Cyberpunk 2077 Will Use Nvidia DLSS In Docked And Handheld Modes

  • Cyberpunk 2077 integrates Nvidia DLSS upscaling on the Switch 2.
  • Performance and Quality modes are available in both docked and handheld configurations.
  • Quality modes and docked performance settings render the game at 1080p.
  • Handheld performance mode upscales Cyberpunk 2077 to 720p.

Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter elaborated in DF Direct Weekly episode 210 that the Quality Mode targets 30 FPS at 1080p in both docked and handheld setups, while the Docked Performance Mode aims for 40 FPS at 1080p on compatible 120 Hz displays. The Handheld Performance Mode maintains a dynamic resolution of 720p while sustaining the same 40 FPS target as the docked variant. Given that Cyberpunk 2077 employs an earlier version of Nvidia DLSS compatible with the Switch 2's custom Tegra processor, DLSS 4 and advanced features like multi-frame generation will not be supported.

Cyberpunk 2077 joins a growing roster of third-party titles headed to the Switch 2. With its Switch 2 port slated for release on June 5, the visual fidelity of Night City on Nintendo's next-gen system remains a topic of keen anticipation.
