World of Warcraft is introducing a new customization option for Marksmanship Hunters in Patch 11.1.5: the Glyph of the Strix. This glyph transforms the Hunter's Spotting Eagle companion into a Spotting Owl.  While the acquisition method remains undisclosed, it's anticipated to be available with the patch's release.

Patch 11.1 brought substantial changes to Hunters, particularly a rework of the Marksmanship specialization.  The introduction of the Spotting Eagle, which assists in combat with attacks and stuns, was a key adjustment.  It also plays a role in activating Harrier's Cry, the updated Bloodlust ability.

The discovery of the Glyph of the Strix effect within the Patch 11.1.5 PTR files suggests this customization is imminent. While no in-game models or items are currently associated with it, WoW content creator MrGM's findings strongly indicate its inclusion in the next update.

This new glyph offers a significant improvement for Hunters.  One of the core appeals of the Hunter class is the ability to tame and utilize diverse pets. The mandatory Spotting Eagle in Marksmanship was a point of contention for players desiring more control over their companions. Patch 11.1 already partially addressed this by allowing the use of Hunter pets after nearly removing them entirely from the specialization. The Glyph of the Strix further enhances customization options, moving in a positive direction for player choice.

It's important to note that the glyph's appearance on the PTR isn't confirmed, so changes or delays are possible.  However, its implementation seems likely, whether in Patch 11.1.5 or a subsequent update.

Many players hope this glyph is a precursor to more Hunter customization options, particularly for the Pack Leader talent, which currently summons generic animal companions.  Providing more choices for pet appearances fulfills the class fantasy and would be a welcome addition for Hunters.
