Bohemia Interactive has released update 1.27 for DayZ on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, expanding the post-apocalyptic world with new populated areas and addressing lingering issues.

Following the October 2024 Frostline DLC, which introduced the challenging Sakhal map, this February 2025 update focuses on enhancing the player experience.

The 1.27 update significantly expands cities, villages, and landmarks across Sakhal, including a new point of interest on Shantar Island that Bohemia Interactive encourages players to discover.

Beyond map expansions, the update improves core survival mechanics. New tool slots and reorganized backpacks simplify inventory management. Enhanced audio design increases immersion, with louder footsteps in cluttered areas and audible teeth chattering from prolonged cold exposure.

Fishing has been rebalanced, and a new boat decay mechanic allows server owners to control boat persistence, preventing clutter in waterways.

The update arrives after the controversial Frostline DLC launch, which faced criticism for its $26.99 price tag compared to the more extensive and less expensive Livonia expansion. This led to review bombing and a response from Bohemia Interactive CEO Marek Španěl defending the pricing based on average playtime.

Despite initial negativity, DayZ saw increased player numbers and improving review scores following the DLC's release, suggesting continued player engagement.

The 1.27 update appears to address player concerns and improve the overall DayZ experience, potentially further stabilizing the game's reception.

Version 1.27.159420 (Released on February 25, 2025) brings a host of additions, changes, and fixes to the Frostline expansion and the base game. These include updates to Chernarus, Livonia, server infrastructure, the PC launcher, modding tools, and the terrain builder.
