Activision recently announced the return of Guitar Hero, this time on mobile platforms. However, the excitement surrounding the announcement was quickly overshadowed by controversy surrounding the promotional image used.

The image, shared on Activision's Instagram account, was identified by fans as being AI-generated.  Several details, such as incorrect note track colors and multiple colors on the same track, fueled criticism and sparked debate about the effort invested in the game's marketing.

While some fans expressed disappointment and even vowed not to purchase the game, others welcomed the return of the series to mobile devices.  The incident highlights the ongoing discussion around the use of AI in creative fields and its potential impact on artistic integrity.

This isn't the first foray of Guitar Hero onto mobile. Previous iterations, including versions for BlackBerry devices and the popular Guitar Hero 3 Mobile, saw significant success.  However, the last main title, Guitar Hero Live (2015), faced mixed reception due to its soundtrack and limited multiplayer options.

The franchise's absence over the past decade has left a void in the rhythm game genre, with titles like Rift of the NecroDancer and Clone Hero gaining popularity.  The success of Guitar Hero Mobile remains to be seen, but fans are hopeful the final product will exceed the quality of its initial promotional material.
