Gamers anticipating the arrival of Dragon Age: The Veilguard on PlayStation Plus in March 2025 can begin their journey early.  A free character creation app is currently available on the PlayStation Store, allowing players to familiarize themselves with the game's customization options ahead of its release.

The inclusion of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in the PS Plus lineup so soon after its October 2024 launch surprised many fans. Players eager to experience BioWare's latest RPG on their PS5 should prepare their consoles; the game requires over 80GB of storage space.

While the full game won't be available through PS Plus until March 4th, the standalone character creator offers a compelling preview of the world of Thedas.  EA has described this free character creation tool as a method for players to delve into character customization before the game officially becomes part of the monthly games lineup.  

The character creation app mirrors the functionality found within the main game, enabling players to experiment with various combat classes, races, and appearances. Multiple character saves are supported, allowing users to craft their perfect Rook before transferring it to the full game once it's available through PS Plus. This offers a unique opportunity to engage with Dragon Age: The Veilguard in advance.

Although Dragon Age: The Veilguard garnered positive critical reception, it seems to have struggled to capture a broad audience.  Following the game's less-than-stellar launch, EA has reportedly restructured BioWare, reassigning some team members to other projects, including the next installment in the Mass Effect franchise.

Despite the internal shifts, development on the new Mass Effect title appears to be progressing. BioWare's executive producer, Michael Gamble, recently reassured fans via Twitter that the game remains in pre-production. However, the long-term impact of the restructuring on the game's development and eventual release date remains to be seen.

The availability of a pre-release character creator is a clever incentive for PS Plus subscribers to explore Dragon Age: The Veilguard once it joins the service. Alongside the RPG, March 2025's PS Plus offerings include Sonic Colors: Ultimate and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection.  All three titles will be accessible to all PS Plus tiers from March 4th to March 31st.
