Following the Famitsu Dengeki Award for Most Anticipated Game of 2025, Game Freak developer Haruka Tochigi confirmed his role as director of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.  Tochigi shared that the game is undergoing final refinements and expressed gratitude for fans' continued support.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A transports players to Lumiose City within the Kalos region.  Echoing the open-world exploration of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players will traverse expansive zones, engaging in Pokémon battles and captures amidst Lumiose's urban landscape. The game introduces innovative battle mechanics featuring move cooldowns and real-time dodging, adding layers of strategy to combat.

The return of Mega Evolution adds another exciting dimension to Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The extent of new Mega Evolutions joining established forms remains a mystery, fueling anticipation among fans.

Haruka Tochigi’s leadership marks his directorial debut.  His history with the franchise includes contributions to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire as lead 3D map graphics designer, culminating in his role as 3D Visual Section Director for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is poised to be a significant entry in the series, introducing fresh gameplay elements interwoven with the familiar setting of Lumiose City. Tochigi indicated the implementation of new battle mechanics and the utilization of Lumiose's environment for unique gameplay experiences.  While a firm release date remains undisclosed, the game is confirmed for a 2025 launch.

This installment also marks a departure from the series' traditional E rating, receiving an E10+ rating for Fantasy Violence. The specifics behind this higher rating remain to be seen, adding intrigue to the game’s narrative and content.

With its revamped combat system, the revival of Mega Evolution, and the leadership of a first-time director, Pokémon Legends: Z-A stands as a highly anticipated title for 2025.  The impact of Tochigi’s creative vision on the Pokémon world is eagerly awaited by fans.
